Ever since she was a child, Eda has loved drawing what the environment inspires in her. It’s a passion that has never left her. Raised in the cosmopolitan city of Istanbul, Turkey, she began her studies in landscape architecture at Istanbul Technical University, where she learned how to design public and private outdoor spaces. Attracted by its interdisciplinary approach, she went on to study for a Master’s degree in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and took part in an exchange programme at the EPFL in Lausanne. Later, during her first professional experiences, Eda discovered a particular interest in interior design. She completed her architecture studies with a master’s degree in interior design at the Iuav University of Art and Design in Venice.
Passionate about renovation projects, she enjoys following their progress and seeing the transformation come to fruition. From researching and documenting the brief to revising a design and managing the collaboration with craftsmen and outside experts, her days are never the same. From the drawing board to the finished product, she takes great care to ensure that the original intention and concept are respected.
“Renovations can be lengthy and require a wide range of skills. It’s important to keep an eye on the guidelines: I like to act as a compass,” says Eda.
When she thinks about the broad outlines of the study, it’s really the spirit of the place that she’s trying to express. “My designs have to communicate the intrinsic character of the space, while reinforcing its identity. Combined with respect for the functionality of the space and the client’s intentions, this is the key to a successful project.”
It’s an exercise in observation that Eda regularly undertakes, even outside the agency. Whenever she can, she returns to urban sketching. It’s a practice she learned while studying landscape design in Istanbul. As she wanders around, she sketches from life, from what surrounds and touches her. Sitting on a bench or in a café, she captures the moment and sketches the outlines of a landscape or a local scene. To experience it more intensely, with all its details.
