In the beginning was
A raised holiday chalet with few openings to the outside. The intention was to convert it into a house and live on the ground floor. The extension had to respect the available square metres.
Our approach
Enlarge the ground floor by extending out to the sides, without altering the existing house.
Play with the asymmetry of the existing roof.
Keeping the upper part intact and reserving it for guests.
From concept to implementation
- As the existing house was raised, the idea was to open it up directly onto the garden and the lake.
- To respect the asymmetry of the roof, an interplay of horizontal lines was created: two different roofs sliding over each other. This play of sliding and floating is reminiscent of the horizontal line of the lake.
- The joinery on the outside adds complexity: it casts shadows on the façade.
- Maximum openness to the exterior with the creation of corner views.
