In the beginning was
A well-preserved manor house that the new owners wanted to make their own. While preserving its history, they wanted to dust off the premises and turn them towards the future.

Our approach
Create a play of colours and materials to reinvent the space, interact with the light and live more fully in the outdoor landscape.

From concept to implementation

Selection of wall colours and floor materials. Each colour has been chosen to reflect the character and cultural references of the client. The colours, refined and nuanced, directly speak to the client.

Enhancing the home’s natural luminosity: the colours chosen are soft, natural and suggestive. As if letting in the reflections of the outside landscape.

Structuring the space by creating graphic markers with the use of black frames and furniture elements that punctuate the space and emphasise its geometry.

Emphasising the simplicity of the lines and adding lightness by creating made-to-measure storage units – cupboards, bookcases, niches – in a contemporary style, to bring coherence to the whole.

In the beginning was
A protected heritage site, consisting of a mansion built in the 19th century by architect Louis Viollier, and landscaped grounds on the banks of the Arve. All to be renovated and extended.

Our approach
Create a strong link between the interior of the house and its magnificent grounds.
Redefine and extend the living spaces as much as possible, despite the constraints associated with building rights.
Highlight the character of the existing architecture.
Infuse the personality of the clients into this house steeped in history.

From concept to implementation

Creation of a veranda and annexe, designed as transitional spaces between the house and garden.

Redesign of the interior perspectives in dialogue with the openings in the façade, to create a play of views, light, and depth.

Creation of additional living spaces while respecting the imposed dimensions. This includes converting attic space, carefully optimizing the height under the roof, creating basements under the existing house, and adding extensions.

Preservation of the character of the existing building (reworking of the fine design of the walnut joinery) to create a sense of coherence throughout.

Renovation and insulation of the roofs, paying particular attention to the eave design to preserve its original lightness and elegance.

Restoration or identical replacement of damaged cladding to preserve the building’s authenticity.

Inside, the design of the new joinery, choice of materials, and colour palette blend in with the existing features while reflecting the owners’ personalities.

In the beginning was
An office building constructed in the 1970s, whose ageing communal areas no longer reflected the prestige of its city centre location.

Our approach
Restore the building’s prestige by creating an intimate, harmonious, timeless and reassuring atmosphere.

From concept to implementation

Eliminating dated elements to introduce a sense of timelessness. Highlighting the character of the building by enhancing the existing material.

Combining travertine with another material to make it stand out. The use of oak creates an intimate setting that personalises the spaces, including in terms of sound. The oak grain was chosen for its straight lines, which create a vertical and graphic effect.

Careful selection of a palette of colours and materials to create a discreet, refined harmony and reinforce the elegant character of the communal areas of this address.

Adding an institutional and reassuring touch by choosing lighting fixtures with a classic aesthetic.

Affirming the identity of the premises with clear, graphic signage.

In the beginning was
A bright open-plan space on the top floor of an office building in Vésenaz. The location enjoys a beautiful view of Lake Geneva. While the setting is exceptional, the original premises evoked a standard workspace, far from the serene and welcoming atmosphere one would expect from a medical practice.

Our approach
To create a warm, soft, and reassuring environment while incorporating a high level of technical sophistication, that reflects the seriousness and precision associated with the dental practice.

From concept to implementation

Selection of flooring as one of the key elements of the project. The lines are curved, the shapes evoke roundness and fluidity. The patterns stimulate the imagination, evoking both clouds above a lake and rows of teeth. This choice combines aesthetics with health requirements: this flooring is used in hospital environments for its antiseptic properties.

The furniture was chosen with the same logic in mind: roundness, comfort, visual softness, without ever compromising functionality. Everything is designed to reassure the patient, immersing them in a coherent universe where technical requirements are forgotten behind a welcoming and harmonious envelope.

In a nod to the world of healthcare, the materials chosen are based around white-treated with softness-and warm touches of ochre. Black is used

In the beginning was
A Japanese-inspired house designed in 1969 by architects Frei and Hunziker. The house is set in a remarkable listed natural site. Comprising five interconnected pavilions, it was in need of complete renovation.

Our approach
To emphasise the innovative nature of the architecture, which is built using modular pavilions. Highlight the references to Japanese culture. Capture the essence of the site while telling a new story.

From concept to implementation

Conservation of the original structure of the wooden pavilions.

Strengthening the relationship between the interior and exterior materials of the gardens through the use of granite blocks. Treating the patios as rooms.

An aesthetic and functional approach: these mineral elements, designed as fountains, bring freshness to the rooms while preserving their privacy.

Refinement of the roofs and eaves. The whole structure has been reworked in slate to emphasise the finesse of the eaves.

Creation of made-to-measure furniture (bench, bar, storage), fittings, and decoration designed to extend the graphic lines of the original architecture.

Creation of a bar whose lines and materials reflect the spirit of the place.

A work born out of inner need
Created without commission or commercial objective, this totem marks a defining moment in Valentine Bärg’s career: the moment when her own expression came to the fore. A reflection deeply rooted in a sensitive and symbolic world.

This work bears witness to an important transition: from an architectural practice based on functional and tangible responses to a more introspective, poetic approach that is less easy to articulate.

A work that does not say everything, but suggests, evokes, and reassures. It expresses an essential part of her creative universe, often present in her projects, but rarely highlighted in such a direct way.

The symbol of a personal language
Created in collaboration with Swiss carpenter Wider, this piece defies conventional categories: it is neither a structure, nor a piece of furniture, nor an object. Potentially, it is all of these things at once. With no defined scale or function, it straddles several disciplines—architecture, design, art—and embraces this ambiguity with force.

A work in progress
Today, this creation stands at the heart of the agency. Its presence soothes and inspires. Open to future metamorphoses—columns, lamps, table legs—it has become a kind of creative matrix, a starting point.

A suspended promise, a fragment of architectural language that will one day find other expressions.

Our approach
To blend in with the heritage while giving it the appeal of a contemporary house. Our aim is to be non-invasive and to build with an ecological approach.

From concept to completion

The choice of a timber construction to combine respect for history with the needs of the present day. The larch wood in the new building has a patina over time and turns grey naturally, blending into the surrounding mineral landscape.

This village house is oriented towards light and nature.

A discreet installation. The size, openings and relationship to the garden were determined through an analysis of the surrounding houses, in collaboration with monument and site experts.

A concern for the environment: building a timber-frame house means faster assembly, with a smaller carbon footprint. For heating, we chose a geothermal heat pump.

In the beginning was
An 18th-century manor house facing the lake in a protected village. Once a family holiday home, it had to be redesigned to suit the lifestyle of its new occupants. It’s a place where the owner still has vivid childhood memories that she doesn’t want to erase.

Our approach
Enable the family to make the house their own in a different way while maintaining continuity with the happy history of this family home.

From concept to implementation

Redistributing the rooms to suit the lifestyle of a young couple with two children. The large hallway became the kitchen, and new bathrooms took the place of bedrooms. These rooms have changed identity and function.

Bringing in light was a key consideration, with particular attention paid to the selection of subtle hues that would complement the gentle glow of the lakeside.

Work on simple, no-frills lines. All the while keeping in mind the idea of continuity.

The character features, in particular the parquet floors and mouldings, have been restored and brought to the fore.
