In the beginning was
A protected heritage site, consisting of a mansion built in the 19th century by architect Louis Viollier, and landscaped grounds on the banks of the Arve. All to be renovated and extended.

Our approach
Create a strong link between the interior of the house and its magnificent grounds.
Redefine and extend the living spaces as much as possible, despite the constraints associated with building rights.
Highlight the character of the existing architecture.
Infuse the personality of the clients into this house steeped in history.

From concept to implementation

Creation of a veranda and annexe, designed as transitional spaces between the house and garden.

Redesign of the interior perspectives in dialogue with the openings in the façade, to create a play of views, light, and depth.

Creation of additional living spaces while respecting the imposed dimensions. This includes converting attic space, carefully optimizing the height under the roof, creating basements under the existing house, and adding extensions.

Preservation of the character of the existing building (reworking of the fine design of the walnut joinery) to create a sense of coherence throughout.

Renovation and insulation of the roofs, paying particular attention to the eave design to preserve its original lightness and elegance.

Restoration or identical replacement of damaged cladding to preserve the building’s authenticity.

Inside, the design of the new joinery, choice of materials, and colour palette blend in with the existing features while reflecting the owners’ personalities.

In the beginning was
A raised holiday chalet with few openings to the outside. The intention was to convert it into a house and live on the ground floor. The extension had to respect the available square metres.

Our approach
Enlarge the ground floor by extending out to the sides, without altering the existing house.
Play with the asymmetry of the existing roof.
Keeping the upper part intact and reserving it for guests.

From concept to implementation

As the existing house was raised, the idea was to open it up directly onto the garden and the lake.

To respect the asymmetry of the roof, an interplay of horizontal lines was created: two different roofs sliding over each other. This play of sliding and floating is reminiscent of the horizontal line of the lake.

The joinery on the outside adds complexity: it casts shadows on the façade.

Maximum openness to the exterior with the creation of corner views.

In the beginning was
A family home to be built on a wooded plot in a residential area.

Our approach
To make the most of the environment and the sunshine.
Define well-defined zones: to the northeast, the driveway leading to the garage and the rear of the house; to the southwest, the living area opening onto the wooded garden and swimming pool.

From concept to implementation

The house is a timber-frame construction. To comply with regulations, the building’s facade is rendered. For ornamentation, some details are present in the painted fir vertical cladding.

Exterior features continue the interior design; the house’s extension includes the swimming pool.

On the first floor, a large open space overlooking the garden brings together the kitchen, dining room, living room and study. The positioning of the structure’s posts punctuates the spaces.

The gable roof, mandatory in the commune, is built on a purlin-and-rafter principle.

In the beginning was
The desire to build a large villa in a protected site on the shores of Lake Geneva, on a sloping site close to a classified residence. The project was to include a six-bedroom house, a spa and an indoor swimming pool.

Our approach
Limit the impact on the land, not to be invasive. Dialog with nature and take advantage of the slope of the land to find space underground. Be part of the heritage. Don’t be invasive. Build with an ecological approach.

From concept to implementation

Design of an underground structure in raw concrete on which a timber-frame construction stands.

Optimizing and playing with the proportions of the pavilion structure of the nearby listed residence.

Creation of flat green roofs to blend into the landscape.

In the beginning was
A Japanese-inspired house designed in 1969 by architects Frei and Hunziker. The house is set in a remarkable listed natural site. Comprising five interconnected pavilions, it was in need of complete renovation.

Our approach
To emphasise the innovative nature of the architecture, which is built using modular pavilions. Highlight the references to Japanese culture. Capture the essence of the site while telling a new story.

From concept to implementation

Conservation of the original structure of the wooden pavilions.

Strengthening the relationship between the interior and exterior materials of the gardens through the use of granite blocks. Treating the patios as rooms.

An aesthetic and functional approach: these mineral elements, designed as fountains, bring freshness to the rooms while preserving their privacy.

Refinement of the roofs and eaves. The whole structure has been reworked in slate to emphasise the finesse of the eaves.

Creation of made-to-measure furniture (bench, bar, storage), fittings, and decoration designed to extend the graphic lines of the original architecture.

Creation of a bar whose lines and materials reflect the spirit of the place.

In the beginning was
A house to be built on one of the last building plots in the centre of a protected village.

Our approach
To blend in with the heritage while giving it the appeal of a contemporary house. Our aim is to be non-invasive and to build with an ecological approach.

From concept to completion

The choice of a timber construction to combine respect for history with the needs of the present day. The larch wood in the new building has a patina over time and turns grey naturally, blending into the surrounding mineral landscape.

This village house is oriented towards light and nature.

A discreet installation. The size, openings and relationship to the garden were determined through an analysis of the surrounding houses, in collaboration with monument and site experts.

A concern for the environment: building a timber-frame house means faster assembly, with a smaller carbon footprint. For heating, we chose a geothermal heat pump.

In the beginning was
A sloping plot with an open view of Lake Geneva.

Our approach
To design a house for a family influenced by the Scandinavian way of life, sensitive to art, design and the beauty of nature. We kept the swimming pool and garage from the old building.

From concept to implementation

The volume is deliberately simple and uncluttered. The focus is on the windows. Large openings punctuate the villa to let in light and interact with the surrounding landscape.

The choice was made to use raw materials and natural pigments.

Each room is given the same emphasis: living room, bedrooms, study and hallway all form a whole. There is no hierarchy.

Upstairs, the circulation stretches between the views of the lake and the trees. Each bedroom has large windows with low sills at bed height.

A roof terrace lets you enjoy the view of nature and the lake in complete tranquillity.
